Here is a little peek into what's happening in KB :
Shared/Close Reading: Identifying the title, unknown words and # of lines of text, using our close reading symbols, identify "chunky monkey" patterns in words(ay,ey,ou,ow,ing,tion)
Blending: Stretchy Snake Strategy: Stretch your words and listen for each sound focusing on:long vowels
Parts of Speech: Identifying nouns , verbs
Rhyming: Practice thinking about how words sound the same at the end.Try to grab the rhyme at the end of the words. ( We do this in class :)) Try to generate your own rhymes!
Syllables: Have fun counting,clapping, jumping, twisting,drumming the number of syllables in a word.
Thinking Maps: Circle Maps- defining in context. Flow Maps- Sequencing,tree Map- classifying
Transition Words: In the beginning, Next, After that, Then, Finally, In the end
Zoo Phonics: Sounds of the zoo friends. Blending the sounds to make CVC/CVC-e (consonant vowel consonant) words.
Sight words: Continue to work a little each day.
Comprehension: Continue to practice identifying evidence in the illustrations ( Use your "Eagle Eye") and text.
Asking Clarifying Questions: Who, What, When, Where, Why, How
Poem of the Week:
Color word: make sure you can read all of your color words :)
Numbers to 20: formation and counting objects, showing the number with tens and ones
Calendar Skills: Days of the week, months of the year, tallying, drawing a tens frame, drawing a 10 stick, showing the value of a number
Ordinal Numbers: 1st-10th
Shapes: triangle, square, circle, rectangle, cylinder, cube, sphere,cone, rectangular prism
Addition: Using objects, numbers and equations to solve story problems
Team Math:Working together to explain the way we use mathematics (numbers) to solve real life problems.
Art: painting snowmen
